This village of white houses and rectilinear lay out was created by the French during the Seven Year War (1756-1763). In the beginning, it was planned to lodge the French troops as well as to create a pinpoint in order to organize the densely populated rural outskirts.

A visit to Sant Lluis opens one's eyes to simplicity, to the real beauty of things with its Dalt Windmill (Molí de Dalt), which represents the population's image: an old windmill converted into today's ethnological museum.

The traditional folklore is still alive in these people; the Joc de Bolla, a game similar to bowls widely practised in the past, has survived. It is practised on a court at C.C.D. Sant Lluis.

Artistic manifestations become numerous during the summer season. We can easily bump into a concert or a play being held in town or even a boot-sale market where the local artists exhibit the pottery and paintings.

The rural surroundings preserve the essence of Minorca's traditional landscape: the farmhouses spring up through an incredible maze of "dry stone walls" (walls built of piled stones without the help of cement and taking the work of a master), which divide the premises. These houses introduce a series of peculiarities that make them unique, such as the situation of the roofs in an east-west direction or the habit of white washing them giving them an idyllic touch in its whole. One type of house, which outstands above the rest, is the "llocs", seigniorial properties featuring large dimensions and exclusive architectonical forms.

The outskirts of Sant Lluis allows one to practise path finding through routes reaching the sea. Walking in perfect harmony with nature, we can come across autochthonous plants, the paused stroll of the Minorcan cows and a talaiot (prehistoric construction of stone) high enough to get a magnificent over view of Sant Lluis.

Before reaching our destiny, where we are to expect a deserved swim in its crystal waters of the southern creeks, we are liable to meet a defence tower from the 16th century; built of stone and mortar and used, in its times, as a coast look-out from which one can admire the splendorous coast.
